Anika, a
yellow Lab/Golden cross, was born 1/3/06.
She arrived 2/22/06 and weighed 9.6 lbs.

By her second
day here, Anika had learned to stand up on the shorter stand
to reach the higher one. At 10 weeks old, she has perfected the woebegon expression
that accompanies this action!

At first
Jewel, the Great Dane, wanted nothing to do with Anika.
As you can see by the photo of Anika draped across her legs,
she has come to allow the puppy some liberties.

Anika is
always willing to help out. Here she is at
the vet clinic where I work, eager to lend a hand.
Or should I say a mouth?

This girl
can sleep anywhere, in any position!

July 2006
At 6 1/2
months old, Anika has really expanded her public appearances.
We go to Matt's soccer games, where she has learned to lay quietly and not chase
the ball.
She's shopped with us at Walmart and Target.
She's visited the liquor store, and Play It Again Sports.
She helped Shaina at the Pocono Township Volunteer Fire Department summer carnival.
Miss Anika thinks that
ice is one of the best treats she can have.
She knows the red cooler has some cubes inside.
The cooler was shut completely; she was the one who bumped it open with her
nose.

Anika's passion in life is tennis balls. She will chase them until she's ready to drop, and she still looks to you to throw more. Teaching her to let go of them took a while, and sometimes she still forgets to let go - or drops it then grabs it back before you can reach for it. Other times she spits the ball to you in her enthusiasm.
We participated in a Secret Santa gift exchange with the Great Dane Mailing List that I'm a member of. Anika received a box with many tennis balls ... Here she is Christmas night, sleeping soundly in front of the fire.

Pocono Guiding Pups went bowling in February.

We were invited to participate in an Expo for Senior
Citizens.

Anika got to wear the ribbon from a fruit basket given to my coworkers

On the way home from the baseball game, Anika showed her team spirit ...
Anika went back to The Seeing Eye on Monday, June 11th, 2007. There are tennis balls laying all over my house now that the other dogs just don't find enchanting -- they've lost their magic without you playing with them. Good luck, my baby girl. Make us proud!
We will be going to see Anika's "Town Walk" on Monday, December 17th, 2007. She's almost made it through harness training!

It is said that a picture is worth a thousand words. This shot of Anika definitely fall under that category.
